Hexflex Metallic Paints £4.99

HexFlex Metallic Paint

Metal finishes that actually flex.

Most metallic paints are brittle. The mica and metallic pigments that give them their finish also make them the first thing to crack when the surface underneath moves. HexFlex Metallic keeps the flexible binder of the HexFlex system and loads it with metallic pigment, so the finish holds on foam, fabric, and mixed-material builds the same way the standard colours do.

Nineteen shades. Brush on or airbrush. Satin finish. No tack on cure.

The Colour Range

Golds cover the full spectrum from bright gold through dark gold, royal gold, white gold, and rose gold. Silvers run from standard silver through aged silver and dark silver, giving you the worn and weathered finishes that scenic and prop work often calls for. The range extends into metallic greens, blues, purples, pinks, turquoise, stark red, bronze, and rose, as well as glitter variants in gold, silver, and bronze for builds that need more visible texture in the finish.

Where It Works

HexFlex Metallic performs on the same substrates as the rest of the HexFlex range. EVA foam, Plastazote, polystyrene, fabric, MDF, wood, and mixed-material builds. For best results on foam, apply over HexFlex Primer or a base coat of HexFlex Paint. The metallic finish reads better over a solid colour base, particularly on darker shades.

For aged or distressed effects, HexFlex Metallics layer and dry brush well. The flexibility of the dried coating means the surface can be worked without the finish flaking off.

Application

Apply by brush or thin with water for airbrush use. Build up in thin coats for the best metallic payoff. Dry time between coats is around three hours at room temperature, brought down to twenty or thirty minutes with a heat gun or hairdryer. Full cure on the final coat is twelve hours.

Part of the HexFlex System

HexFlex Metallic sits within the full HexFlex flexible coating system alongside Primer, Clear, Paints, and Aerosol. Layer them freely across the same build without losing flexibility between coats.
