LD45 (Plastazote®) is a medium-density, closed-cell polyethylene foam widely used across fabrication, scenic construction, prototyping and industrial applications. Known for its consistent structure, clean machinability and excellent forming characteristics, LD45 is a reliable material choice where precision and repeatability matter.

Manufactured using nitrogen-expanded, cross-linked polyethylene, LD45 delivers a uniform cell structure and stable density, making it suitable for both manual fabrication and production environments.

Why Choose LD45?

Consistent Material Performance

LD45 offers a uniform density and fine cell structure, ensuring predictable results across cutting, forming and finishing processes.

Lightweight with Structural Stability

With an approximate density of 45 kg/m³, LD45 provides an excellent balance between rigidity and weight, making it easy to handle while retaining shape and definition.

Excellent Heat-Forming Properties

The material responds well to heat, allowing for controlled shaping, forming and thermoforming without collapse or surface degradation.

Clean Cutting and Machining

LD45 cuts cleanly using hand tools, CNC, laser (with appropriate controls) and hot wire systems, producing sharp edges and accurate profiles.

Broad Application Range

Commonly used in:

  • Fabrication and modelling

  • Scenic and set construction

  • Automotive and vehicle trimming

  • Prototyping and product development

  • Protective padding and spacing

  • Prop and costume manufacture
